Kodak aims to make flash obsolete
If their press release is to be believed, Kodak are developing a new camera sensor that will eliminate the need for flash on cameras. Ordinary camera sensors use red, green, and blue pixels distributed such that half of the pixels are green and the remaining is split evenly between red and blue. With the new technology that Kodak is using, it has added “clear” pixels that serve to collect more light when a photograph is taken.
Those looking to license the technology should get a chance to sample the new sensors sometime next year with production devices hitting much later. We can wait. Bring on better low-light photography already.
