Weekly WTF: Mouse made from felt

Weekly WTF: Mouse made from felt

Seriously, do these people ever stop and think about how un-ergonomic their designs are? A brick-like mouse? Uhhh no thanks! I think I’ll stick with my dome-shaped one that allows me to wrap my palm around it. Call me old-fashioned.

And if you look at the picture carefully enough, you’ll notice that they forgot the scroll wheel. My guess is that they left it out because it would remind users of how uncomfortable to use scroll wheels are. They seem to think the same way about the overall mouse design too.

The plus points? Laser-tracking and wireless.

Weekly Wrap-up: Boring Edition

Yawn. I think you can yawn again at the news stories this past week. Yes there were a couple of hot gadget launches, like the iRiver NV hybrid device and the Sony Ericsson K770i and some software announcements like Adium 1.1 and Skype 2.7 beta for Mac OS X. But by and the large, the only big story of the week was from Nokia. They have issued a product advisory for the BL-5C type battery used in several of their phones. If you own a Nokia handset, please check your battery and contact Nokia if it needs replacement. While on the subject of exploding batteries, we also got news about Japan working on new standards for batteries in order to avoid another fiasco like the one Sony is having to deal with.

Meh. Not a terribly exciting week in news, was it? Maybe it was for those of you who own Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and an Xbox Live account. Why? Because Halo 3 will feature four player co-op, that’s why. Over System Link and over Xbox Live. Of course, those in love with torrents will be eagerly waiting for the re-launch of Suprnova.org. With QuakeCon 2007 in full swing, the man himself, John Carmack announced a completely new game that id is working on, called Rage. In yet more gaming news, GTA IV was delayed to 2008. Speaking of delays, Office 2008 for Mac was also delayed by Microsoft until January 2008. And staying with Microsoft, we heard the shocking news that Vista Home prices were cut in China to combat piracy.

Weekly Wrap-up: Slow News Week Edition

It’s been another slow news week. The start of the week was flooded with iPhone related news as close to a million geeks got their grubby hands on the new phone. As the iPhone iNsanity slowly subsided, it appeared as though all the major news outlets simply had nothing to talk about. Things slowed down to a trickle and hopefully will get better especially with min-E3 coming soon. But anyway, we’d like to inform our dear readers that they might not see new posts for a couple of days this week. It might be because of slow news days but more likely because we will be MIA. And yes, if you’re interested in becoming a news poster or contributor, hop over to this thread on the forums to read the terms and post a reply!

Weekly Wrap-up: Lack of news Edition

The iPhone has truly taken over the news media. It’s hard to find any interesting news with all news sites dedicating a huge majority of their time and effort towards talking about the iPhone. We here at TechSpot are sick of the attention being afforded to the iPhone. And we’re not just saying that because we didn’t our slimy hands on one. The coverage smacks of sensationalism and a way for a lot of sites to make a quick buck by praising the iPhone and devoting a large chunk of attention to it. For the first time ever, we don’t have a Weekly WTF for you. The only thing that made us go WTF? this week was the obscene amount of news covering the iPhone launch. Well, anyway, here’s a wrap-up of the few interesting news stories for the week, sans any iPhone news. Yes, we love you too.

Samsung begins mass production of 1.8″ 64GB SSDs
A shiny new file manager for KDE, Dolphin!
Popping sounds in Mac OS 10.4.TEN?
Seagate Announces 1TB Hard Drives

Weekly Wrap-up: Portable edition

Yes, we did see quite some activity this week on the shiny, tiny gadgets side, didn’t we? Of course, there was the now standard slew of iPhone news but you had Nokia announcing some rather drab phones and Samsung following it up with some sexy phones that went light on the features as usual. There was also some Xbox 360 news in the form of the mountain of data generated by the Halo 3 beta and the $50 million payment for exclusive GTA IV content. Safari saw a million downloads and a new 3.0.2 beta version. Apple also dropped a surprise with Mac OS X 10.4.10 with Leopard only a few months away. Speaking of which, leaked copies of Leopard can be found circulating on the intertubes.

There was some good news for the Zune team and their loyal supporters as the player held on to its #2 spot in the US market and picked up an 11.3% market share. ZuneScene also reported on the flash Zune with 4GB and 8GB capacities being thrown around.

Here are the rest of the week’s interesting stories:

Ubuntu to Microsoft: DO NOT WANT!
MySpace is in your IMs now
Manhunt 2 being shot down by ratings boards
Epson creates display with extremely low power-consumption
Rock in color: Creative Zen Stone Plus coming soon
